Dear students and families,
Happy new year everyone! I hope everyone had an excellent time away from school. January is an important teaching month with very few interruptions. I look forward to everyone showing great progress in all subject areas. However, we will begin gently on Wednesday . . . 🙂
Hill and Rink at Recess
It is exciting to finally have snow on the ground. For now, the big hill is closed. I expect it will open within the first few days back at school. When the hill opens, our class will have a scheduled recess period to use the hill. Students using the hill at recess during our class time will:
- use only school crazy carpets
- slide on the hill only during assigned class time
- wait for the recess supervisor before beginning to slide
- slide down between the pylons and walk up around the outside of the pylons
- sit appropriately on the carpet (not headfirst or on belly)
The rink is not used by K-4 students during recess times.
A reminder that our nutrition unit in health will begin in the new year. We plan to have a 100 day celebration involving food and snacks at the end of this unit of study (hopefully late January or early February). Students whose birthdays were in the first half of the school year may bring nut free snacks to share at that time (voluntary).
Thank you again for not sending snacks to share at other times. We will do our sharing on the designated day (announced nearer the date). 🙂
Spelling Next WeekWe will not begin a new spelling lesson until next week. Here is a preview of spelling lessons for the week of January 9 if you would like to start practicing early.
