January 22 week at a peek

Dear students and families,

example of watermarked image

It is good to see that we were able to find our way through the fog on the weekend.  I decided to venture out into the sepia looking world on Sunday.  As promised, class – here is one of the photos I took that captured that magical day!

Student Blogging

We hope to have student blogs up and ready to roll in the next week.  Digital literacy is a big part of our learning – I put a copyright and a watermark on my photo, as an example.  We will talk about copyright in class.   🙂

Social Studies

We have been working our way “Over Canada” in social studies and were excited to find some of our favourite places in Canada on the giant map last week.  A big thank you to Ms. Bishop-Yong and MP Kevin Waugh for bringing this opportunity to our school and class.  If you would like to see more of the “Over Canada” video from class, see below.

Class Twitter Account

See the class Twitter account for tweets that link to the monstrous map, our class art show and the new cashierless Google-Go store discussed in class today.  Our class Twitter widget is on the right sidebar.  I tweet sparingly but when I do tweet, our class and links of enduring importance are featured.

Class Art Show

Our class art show – “The Chronicles of our Altered Egos” – continues until Friday of this week.  A big thanks to Ms. Hall for creating this opportunity for our class and our school.  See photos from the art show below.

Grade 5 Math Update

The grade 5s will have daily multiplication fact quizzes during the multiplication unit.

  • Practice sheets that are exactly the same as each daily quiz will be sent home this week.
  • Ideally, student fact recall should be accurate and 2-3 seconds or faster.

Grade 6 Math Update

The grade 6 quiz on factors, prime and composite numbers is on Wednesday.

We are moving forward with multiples.

For students who need or want further review on factors, primes, composites and multiples, I highly recommend following this link to Math Live:

  1. Click on lessons in the bottom left hand corner.
  2. Click on Multiples, Factors, Primes and Composites (second topic from the top).

  • We work on our twelfth spelling lesson on Tuesday and Wednesday with the spelling tests and assignments due on Thursday.  This is a review lesson for the white and buff groups.
  • Students can expect to get caught up on corrections and complete the new lessons this week.
